Our Beliefs

Scriptural Authority 

We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God, inspired by the Creator of the universe and written through mortal men of His choosing. Every verse, chapter, and book of the Bible is vital to a Christian’s life and is true. It is our road map to how Christians are called to live as children of the Most High. 

'And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. '

1 Thessalonians 2:13

'All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.'

2 Timothy 3:16-17

‘The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;’

Psalm 19:7 

‘Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.’

The Trinity 

 God is the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, sovereign, loving, merciful, and just Creator of the universe who exists in three persons, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

Sin 

Adam and Eve, the first humans who were ever created sinned in the perfect garden of Eden through the temptation of Satan in the form of a serpent. Turning their backs on the Holy God with whom they had a personal and verbal relationship, they doomed humanity with their sin. Every human from the point of conception is a wicked and sinful human being.

Romans 3:23

'For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. '

Jesus Christ

We believe that God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ ascended to earth as a baby through the virgin Mary as fully God and fully man, to seek and save the lost. He came to minister to us and ultimately save us before His ascension back to His seat at the right hand of the Father. 

' In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. '

John 1:1,3-4

'The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'

John 1:29

'Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. '

Philippians 2:5-11

Salvation (Death, Burial, & Resurrection) 

The Scripture is clear that the way to heaven is through salvation only, which is a free gift to us from Christ Jesus. Jesus died a criminal’s death on the cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and rose again to life three days later. Repenting your sin, believing in these events, and accepting Christ into your heart is the Bible's way to heaven. 

'But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.'

Titus 3:4-7

‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”’

John 14:6

'and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. '

Luke 24:46-47

Human Life 

Every human, from the start of conception to their last breath is loved and cherished by God. Scripture tells us we were all made in His image and He yearns for all of us to be His children through salvation. The murdering of innocent lives - unborn babies, the elderly, and the physically or mentally challenged - is an act of sin and brokenness that we will not be a part of. Every life is precious and valued by God, and will be valued by The Backyard Ministries. 

‘For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.’

Psalm 139:13-16

‘Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: ‘I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.'’

Isaiah 24:44 

‘You shall not murder.’

Evangelism 

Children of God are called to go and spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth, and The Backyard Ministries is dedicated to fulfilling this calling. 

'And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”'

Matthew 28:18-20

'but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,'

1 Peter 3:15

Marriage, Gender, & Sexuality 

The Bible is extremely clear on this matter - marriage is between one man and one woman for one lifetime, and He created two genders; male and female. Any form of sexual impurity (pornography, LGBTQ+ community activity, adultery, and fornication) is hurtful and disobedient to the Father. 

‘God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.’ 

Genesis 1:27 

'Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. '

Romans 1:24-27

'“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.’
